General Statement of the Job :
|
|
Clinical counselor is part of the Dear and Hard of Hearing Program that provides behavioral health assessment, clinical treatment, case management and advocacy services to deaf and hard of hearing persons in a 27-county service area. This program is part of the Smoky Mountain Center LME but provides cross-catchment area services to clients in a broader 27-county region.

Essential Job Functions :
|
|
Clients served will be children, adolescents and adults with a broad range of diagnoses of hearing. Clients will be referred from throughout the 27-county catchment area by any of a wide array of organizations and agencies that have identified the need for the specialized services delivered by this program. Cases will be assigned on the basis of special age and disability expertise and caseload capacity to accept referrals. Significant teamwork is involved with this position. Staff within the program work collaboratively as a team in evaluating client needs, developing plans of care and sometimes in the provision of services. The clinical Counselor also works collaboratively with other agencies and with collateral persons in planning, delivering and monitoring service.

Minimum Training and Qualifications :
|
|
Master’s degree from an accredited school of social work or an appropriate human services field and must have a professional license or be license eligible. Due to the population served by this position, applicants must be proficient in American Sign Language. Prefer experience working with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Hepatitis B Vaccine series is offered. Requires an annual TB screening, a Hepatitis B Surface Antigen Test; training in First Aid, CPR and Medical Records Class, North Carolina Intervention (NCI). Post offer/pre-employment drug testing will be conducted.

Physical Requirements :
|
|
Minimal physical effort required, driving a vehicle, lifting, sitting at a desk, standing and walking. The employee is provided with centralized office space. This position travels to each of the residential settings within the catchment area as appropriate. Very careful visual attention, concentration must be used in operation of medical devices, delivery of direct care to clients, dispensing and administering medications.

Knowledge of Job :
|
|
This individual must have the desire and ability to work with individuals who experience symptoms of severe and persistent mental illness and substance abuse/dependence, including consumers with a co-occurring developmental disability. Considerable knowledge and skill in the application of theory, practices, principles.
|
