General Statement of the Job :
|
|
This is a professional medical position providing advanced and specialized treatment services within comprehensive mental health community centers. This position provides psychiatric evaluation and diagnosis, initiates and monitors psychopharmacologic treatments.

Essential Job Functions :
|
|
This position provides psychiatric evaluation and diagnosis, initiates and monitors psychopharmacologic treatments, and provides consultations to staff and other medical doctors as needed. Treats all medical, psychiatric, and neurological problems of assigned patients; evaluates and interprets related reports developed by physicians, psychologists, nurses, social workers, and other professional personnel. Compiles histories of present and past illnesses; reviews available records; performs physical examinations; orders laboratory and x-ray examinations. Assigns duties to subordinates; participates in the training of interns, resident physicians, nurses, and other hospital personnel; reviews completed work for general adequacy and compliance with instructions. Examines new patients or patients with unusual conditions; determines need for and recommends special treatments. Participates in medical conferences and other staff meetings for the presentation and discussion of cases and for general staff development and improvement. Performs related work as required, as in the case of investigating the appropriate utilization of clinical facilities for patient care.

Minimum Training and Qualifications :
|
|
Graduation from an accredited school of medicine and completion of residency and the specialty of psychiatry training, must have license and be Board certified. Child experience and addictions experience desired.
|

Physical Requirements :
|
|
Normal range of motion and reasonable physical health and strength will be required.
|
|
Knowledge of Job :
|
|
Thorough knowledge of the theory, principles, and practices of general, preventive medicine and of the techniques involved. Must have a thorough knowledge of recent developments in the field of medicine and the practice of the medical specialty or sub-specialty of which assigned. Must be skilled in the treating and diagnosing of a variety of diseases and injuries and in the practice of an applicable specialty of medicine. Requires the ability to compile clear and concise notes for patients’ charts and to make oral presentations of cases in medical conferences. Ability to guide work performance of physicians with limited experience. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associate personnel, patients and their families, and the general public.
