General Statement of the Job :
|
|
The Psychiatric/Walk In Clinics will serve adults and children with a wide range of psychiatric conditions. The outpatient psychiatric nurse will work closely with the medical corps of psychiatrists and nurse practitioners to ensure delivery of quality and timely services
|
|
Essential Job Functions :
|
|
The nurse will assist support staff when needed to address issues related to medication access and problems with prescribed medications. The nurse will assist the medical director in implementing a plan for monitoring quality indicators such as obtaining Aims tests and metabolic screening. The nurse will be available to the Rapid access clinician for help in triaging medical problems and access to medical staff.

Minimum Training and Qualifications :
|
|
Graduation from a state accredited school of professional nursing. Must be licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the N.C. Board of Nursing, prefer two years experience. Hepatitis B Vaccine series is offered. Requires an annual TB screening, a Hepatitis B Surface Antigen Test; training in First Aid, CPR and Medical Records Class, North Carolina Intervention (CPI). Post offer/pre-employment drug testing will be conducted.

Physical Requirements :
|
|
Minimal physical effort required, driving a vehicle, lifting, sitting at a desk, standing and walking. The employee is provided with centralized office space. This position travels to each of the residential settings within the catchment area as appropriate. Very careful visual attention, concentration must be used in operation of medical devices, delivery of direct care to clients, dispensing and administering medications.

Knowledge of Job :
|
|
This individual must have the desire and ability to work with individuals who experience symptoms of severe and persistent mental illness and substance abuse/dependence, including consumers with a co-occurring developmental disability. Considerable knowledge and skill in the application of theory, practices, principles, and techniques of the nursing profession; ability to understand, interpret and relate oral and written instructions; ability to explain medical instructions in client and their families/ some ability to organize and supervise the work of other professional and nonprofessional employees; considerable knowledge of the area of work and medications; ability to gain the confidence of patients and to work effectively with them. Work within the established professional guidelines and treatment plans developed for the profession and client served. This position serves a wide range of clients across a rural catchment area and must be sensitive and able to respond appropriately across the cultural differences present in the service population. Training requirements include awareness of the cultural diversity of clients served.

|
Grade/Step to be determined by qualifications and classification of applicant. Position is 48% FTE with no benefits. This is a non-exempt position.
